USM Board of Regents Approves Name Change of Football Stadium at University of Maryland, College Park
Adelphi, Md. (Dec. 11,
2015) -- The Â鶹´«Ã½ (USM) Board of Regents today approved
a request from the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) to rename its
football stadium as Maryland Stadium.
The naming request followed a campus-wide discussion at UMCP
concerning the removal of the name of the late UMCP President "Curley" Byrd.
The request from UMCP President Wallace D. Loh was in response to findings of a
workgroup formed to examine the issue, and was based on a rationale that this
change allows the university to respect and honor its current diversity and
values.
With the board's official approval having been made, UMCP
will memorialize the late "Curley" Byrd in other venues on campus.
